Niece

By Dolly

Hi, I am eleven years old and an aunt of a Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) survivor. CHD has changed my life because you don't really think of that kind of stuff unless it happens to you or a loved one. My niece, Kennedy was diagnosed with Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA) when my sister was only 20 weeks pregnant. I was really scared of what could happen but then I learned more about it and I was not as scared. Only one week after she was born she had surgery on her heart. The surgery took nine hours but it felt like it took a year! Kennedy had her second surgery a few weeks later on her stomach because of pyloric stentosis and that didn't take long at all. Kennedy is doing so well now you can't tell she had two surgeries unless you see her scars. All my family and friends love her and people that read the carepages adore her. Kennedy was born with a CHD and now she proudly wears a scar on her chest to remind us all of what she has been through. My sister and her husband were lucky because they knew before Kennedy was born that she had a CHD. More awareness and research are both so important when it comes to CHD. With these two things lives can be changed and SAVED. Being only eleven I don't know that much about CHD, but I know that spreading awareness is very important.

Kennedy is a CHD survivor and we are so proud of her!

Sincerely,

Danielle (Dolly) Till
