James' Story
James was diagnosed with Hypoplastic at 25 weeks in utero. He was born on Sept. 29th, 2008. I got to see him for 5 minutes and he was rushed to the NICU to be taken care of. He was transferred 3 days later to Advocate Hope Children's Hospital, where he stayed for a very long 5months. He had is Norwood done on 10/6/08. After the Norwood he started developing a lot of fluid around the lungs which in turn turned into his seco0nd surgery a thoracic ligation in November. He was intubated for a month and then did great breathing on his own. They tried to discharge him twice once before thanksgiving and the other right before christmas. Each time he started desating and did not look well. The doctors then informed us that he would not be discharged until he had the Glenn. We had a Cardio Cath done in January. We had a day set for the Glen and James thought otherwise. He started having a lot of diarhea, it was almost every diaper. He got an open wound on his buttocks, so the Glenn kept getting pushed forward. Eventually he healed and had the Glenn on 2/27/09. He did great and was extubated in the OR. The poor little got an infection on the inscision site so he had to go back to surgery a couple of days later to get it cleaned. He was then sent home finally. We were home for three months and went back to get an MRI because he had a seizure after the surgery and a G tube placement. We were only there for four days which was exciting. We now have been home for almost 2 weeks
